UDOT expects minor Thanksgiving delays, launches new Ogden Valley travel resource

Southbound I-15 to see brief delays Tuesday and Wednesday

The Utah Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to plan for minor delays on Interstate 15 for Thanksgiving holiday travel.

Across the state, most UDOT projects will pause construction and open all lanes to traffic to help reduce delays over the holiday weekend. Some existing restrictions or traffic shifts will remain in place where needed to protect work zones and keep drivers and crews safe.

Traffic engineers estimate additional delays this week as people travel for Thanksgiving festivities.

On Tuesday, Nov. 25, drivers can expect:

  • Southbound I-15, Salt Lake County: Up to 20 minutes of additional delay from 3-8 p.m., with the longest slowdowns expected between 4-6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 26, drivers can expect:

  • Southbound I-15, Salt Lake County: Up to 10 minutes of additional delay from 2-5 p.m., with the peak around 3 to 4 p.m.
  • Southbound I-15, Nephi area: Up to 10 minutes of additional delay from noon to 7 p.m., with peak traffic around 3 p.m.

To help drivers plan winter trips in northern Utah, UDOT is launching another branch of its Roads to Recreation program focused on Ogden Valley.

The program provides updates on road, weather, traffic and parking conditions at popular recreation destinations across the state, including the Cottonwood Canyons, Wasatch Back and Zion National Park area.

Roads to Recreation brings together local partners, real-time traveler information, and seasonal transportation resources to help visitors plan ahead and navigate to and from recreation areas with confidence.

“Our goal is to give people the information they need to make safer, smarter travel decisions,” UDOT Director of Traveler Information Becky Parker said. “Ogden Valley is a place Utahns love year-round, and this new resource will help everyone understand conditions before they go.”

While messaging will ramp up during the winter season, updates will continue year-round. Beginning Nov. 24, drivers can visit ogdenvalley.udot.utah.gov or follow @udotogdenvalley on Instagram and Facebook.
