Southbound I-215 lanes near North Temple reduced, I-80 airport ramps to close this weekend

Update: This has been rescheduled for Saturday

Inspection reveals need for pavement repair

The Utah Department of Transportation is warning holiday travelers to prepare for lane and ramp closures on Interstate 215 near Salt Lake City International Airport this weekend.

Map of the closure area showing that two off-ramps coming off of I-215 Southbound will be closed connecting to both I-80 Eastbound and Westbound.

Lanes on southbound I-215 near North Temple will be reduced to one lane on Friday, Dec. 19 Saturday, Dec. 20 at 10 p.m. through Saturday, Dec. 20 Sunday, Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. for pavement repairs. During this time, crews will also close the southbound I-215 off-ramps to Exit 22A (Eastbound Interstate 80) and Exit 22B (Westbound Interstate 80).

These closures are necessary for crews to replace six pavement panels. The issue was brought to UDOT’s attention through a pothole report submitted by a member of the public via the UDOT Click ‘N Fix app. After receiving the report, crews inspected the area and determined that more extensive repairs were needed.

“We know this is a busy travel weekend, and we take any closure very seriously,” UDOT Region Two Director Robert Stewart said. “We rely on our engineers and crews to evaluate conditions and make the right call to keep people safe and keep traffic moving, even when the decision is inconvenient.”
