UDOT opens Mountain View Corridor ahead of schedule, celebrates holiday season
December 19, 2025
Project provides much-needed relief to Utah County drivers
SALT LAKE CITY (Dec. 19, 2025) — The Utah Department of Transportation celebrated the opening of four more miles of Mountain View Corridor (MVC) in northern Utah County today. The road will officially open to the public as early as 7 p.m. tonight.
This is the first section of freeway on the Mountain View Corridor. This new, four-mile-long road includes two lanes in each direction, upgraded intersections at two locations, new and enhanced wildlife fencing, four miles of 12-foot-wide multi-use trail and five new pedestrian bridges.
The project finished four months ahead of schedule, improving connections across a thriving Utah Valley. UDOT’s contractor Jordan Narrows Constructors worked to complete the project as quickly as possible, supported by favorable weather that allowed crews to work longer than expected. Significant support from local, federal and military leaders — including Utah’s federal delegation — helped secure early access to Camp Williams State Military Reserve land, allowing construction to begin nearly a year earlier than planned in those areas.
“This new stretch of Mountain View Corridor provides meaningful relief for drivers in fast-growing Utah County,” UDOT Executive Director Carlos Braceras said. “Opening this stretch ahead of schedule improves regional connectivity and provides drivers with safer, more dependable travel options as the area continues to grow.”
Other than Interstate 15 and Pioneer Crossing (State Route 145), Redwood Road (State Route 68) is the most congested road in Utah County. This new freeway extension is expected to reduce delays on Redwood Road by 75% and will decrease I-15 traffic that regularly backs up near the point of the mountain.
Since construction began in spring of 2024, crews completed a significant amount of work, including:
-Over 350,000 square yards of concrete and asphalt paved, enough pavement to cover more than 60 football fields from end to end
-1.5 million tons of dirt moved, the equivalent of about 150,000 dump truck loads
The next phase of the Mountain View Corridor — from Porter Rockwell Boulevard in Herriman to Old Bingham Highway in West Jordan — is in design and construction is estimated to begin in 2027.
The Mountain View Corridor will eventually be a 35-mile freeway from Interstate 80 in Salt Lake County to State Route 73 in Utah County. With the opening of the new extension in northern Utah County, the Mountain View Corridor now has 31 miles of multi-use trails, 28 pedestrian crossings and nine miles of bike lanes.

Today’s event attendees walked on the new road, snapped photos with Santa, voted on their favorite holiday-decorated trucks and enjoyed games, prizes and food.
