UDOT advises drivers to plan for nightly one-way travel in Provo Canyon

Alternating traffic will allow trucks to safely access SR-113 realignment work

The Utah Department of Transportation is advising drivers to plan ahead for nightly one-way alternating traffic through Saturday, Feb. 28.

Map of the project area showing Deer Creek Reservoir to the West, the roadway to the East, and the road that will have alternating one-way traffic from Island Bach to the South, and 3600 South in Charleston to the North.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 23, US-189 will be reduced to one-way alternating travel nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the morning of Saturday, Feb. 28. The restriction will be in place between the Island Beach Day Use Area and 3600 South in Charleston.

Drivers should plan for possible delays. Traffic in one direction may be stopped for up to 15 minutes at a time while a pilot car guides vehicles through the work zone.

This temporary traffic pattern will allow dump trucks hauling gravel for the foundation of the SR-113 realignment to safely enter and exit the highway.

This work is part of the US-189 Improved Project, which is widening US-189 to two lanes in each direction, improving reservoir access for recreationalists and adding wildlife fencing for increased safety.

Crews are also wrapping up recent rounds of controlled blasting. Since January, US-189 has been closing each morning between Main Canyon Road in Wallsburg and the SR-113 intersection in Charleston. These closures are expected to continue through February but remain subject to change due to weather.
