UDOT warns of early spring break delays in eastern and southern Utah
March 26, 2026
Weekend drivers should also plan for road closures in various locations around the state
SALT LAKE CITY (March 26, 2026) — The Utah Department of Transportation is urging drivers to expect delays over the next several weekends as spring break travel increases across the state.
On Friday, March 27, drivers can expect:
- Southbound I-15, from St. George to Cedar City: Delays from 12-7 p.m., with peak delays of up to 45 minutes around 3 p.m.
- Southbound I-15, from Spanish Fork to Nephi: Delays from 2-7 p.m., with peak delays of up to 25 minutes around 5 p.m.
- Eastbound US-6: Delays from 4-10 p.m., with peak delays of up to 15 minutes around 8 p.m.
“Spring break is one of the busiest travel times of the year,” UDOT Public Relations Director John Gleason said. “We’re asking drivers to plan ahead and expect delays. We don’t want anyone to be surprised by what they see on the road, especially with construction happening in several areas.”
Drivers should plan ahead for weekend closures in Davis, Salt Lake and Box Elder Counties:
Beginning Friday, March 27 at 10 p.m., both directions of U.S. Route 89 will close from Park Lane in Farmington to Parrish Lane in Centerville until Saturday, March 28 at 6 a.m.
Northbound drivers will be detoured to Parrish Lane, then to northbound Interstate 15. Southbound drivers will be detoured to Park Lane, then to southbound Legacy Parkway. Drivers should plan extra time and use alternate routes.
During the closure, crews will pour the bridge deck for a new pedestrian bridge.
Also beginning Friday evening, I-15 between State Street and Park Lane in Farmington will be reduced to two lanes in each direction for median and sign installation. The lane closures will be lifted by Saturday, March 28, at noon.
These traffic impacts are part of the Shepard Lane Improved project, which will add a new interchange at Park Lane and improve walking and biking connections in the area. The project is anticipated to wrap up by the end of the year.
Additionally, on Saturday, March 28, at 7 a.m., Bangerter Highway will be completely closed between 7800 South and 9000 South (SR-209). The closure will remain in place until Monday, March 30 at 5 a.m. to allow Rio Tinto crews to repair and replace pipes.
Over the next four weeks, US-89/US-91 in Box Elder Canyon will be reduced to one lane in each direction while crews replace a culvert and coordinate work with Brigham City water lines.
