UDOT announces major I-80 and I-215 ramp closures, warns of spring break travel delays

First ramp closure begins Monday; spring break delays could reach up to 60 minutes

SALT LAKE CITY (April 2, 2026) —  UDOT is urging drivers to plan ahead for extended ramp closures beginning next week in Salt Lake, and weekend delays due to spring break travel in eastern and southern Utah.

UDOT is expanding the scope of the I-215 West Improved project to include 18 bridge deck replacements and repairs on 12 additional bridges, which will require extended ramp closures throughout the I-215 and I-80 interchange.

This spring and summer, every ramp within the I-80 and I-215 interchange will close at different times for bridge deck replacements. Crews will stagger ramp closures, so not all ramps will close at once, though some closures will overlap. Most ramp closures will last between 20 and 40 days, with many completed in about a month.

The first closure will begin Monday, April 6 at 6 a.m., and will close the ramps from Redwood Road to westbound I-80, southbound I-215 and northbound I-215 for approximately 30 days. Drivers should plan extra time and use alternate routes.

Then, in early May, the ramps from southbound I-215 to westbound I-80 leading to the airport, as well as the eastbound I-80 to southbound I-215 ramps leading to Tooele, will be closed for approximately one month.

“We know this is one of the busiest areas in the state, and these closures will be disruptive,” UDOT Project Manager John Montoya said. “Our crews are working as quickly as possible to get in, do the work right and get ramps back open. Replacing these bridge decks now helps prevent more serious issues down the road and avoids longer, more frequent closures in the future. We’re asking drivers to plan ahead and give themselves extra time while this work is underway.”

Construction is expected to continue through 2027. Once complete, crews will have repaired or replaced 30 bridge decks, repaved miles of road and upgraded safety features throughout the corridor.

Additional details, including full closure schedules and detour information, are available on the project website. Drivers are also strongly encouraged to subscribe to email updates to stay informed about future ramp closures at the I-215 and I-80 interchange.

Prior to next week’s closures, drivers should plan for delays on the following roads due to spring break travel. On Friday, April 3, drivers can expect:

  • Southbound I-15, from Cedar City to St. George: Delays from 12-7 p.m., with peak delays of up to 45 minutes around 3 p.m.

  • Eastbound US-6: Delays from 4-10 p.m., with peak delays of up to 15 minutes around 8 p.m.

Then, on Sunday, April 5, drivers can expect:
