UDOT warns of weekend delays, ramp closures across Utah as spring break travel wraps up
April 10, 2026
Closures, lane reductions and heavier traffic expected statewide
The Utah Department of Transportation is warning drivers to expect a busy weekend on Utah roads, with ramp closures and heavier traffic as spring break travel wraps up.
Across northern Utah and the Salt Lake metro area, drivers can expect:
- US-89, Logan Canyon: Work has resumed on a fiber project that began last spring. Drivers should expect multiple work zones moving throughout the canyon, with one-way alternating traffic during daytime hours as crews install fiber optic cables.
- I-15, Roy: From Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. until Saturday, April 11 at 7 a.m., the on- and off-ramps to 5600 South (Exit 338) will be closed, along with 5600 South beneath the freeway. These closures will allow crews to open a new single-point urban interchange (SPUI), which uses a traffic signal to control all left turns and improve traffic flow.
- I-215, Salt Lake: On Friday, April 10 at 9 p.m. until mid-day on Saturday, April 11, multiple ramps and lanes at the I-215 and I-80 interchange will be closed for bridge work. Ramp closures will include southbound I-215 to eastbound I-80, eastbound I-80 to southbound I-215, westbound I-80 to southbound I-215 and eastbound I-80 to Redwood Road. Additionally, expect lane closures on southbound I-215, westbound I-80 and eastbound I-80 during the same time frame.
- Southbound I-15, South Salt Lake: The on-ramp from 3300 South to southbound I-15 will be closed from Friday, April 10 at 10 p.m. until Saturday, April 11 at 8 a.m. for pavement repairs. After the closure, one lane on the ramp will remain closed through Monday, April 13, at 5 a.m. for final work.
Along with construction, drivers should plan for heavier traffic on Sunday, April 12, as spring break travel wraps up. The following routes are expected to see the heaviest delays:
- Northbound I-15, from St. George to Cedar City: Delays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with peak delays of up to 25 minutes around noon.
- Northbound I-15, from Spanish Fork to Nephi: Delays from 1-10 p.m., with peak delays of up to 60 minutes around 4 p.m.
- Westbound US-6: Delays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with peak delays of up to 20 minutes around noon.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather, equipment availability and other factors. Drivers can check the UDOT Traffic app or visitudottraffic.utah.gov for the latest updates.
