UDOT kicks off projects to repave 22 miles of I-80, improve eight bridges
The Utah Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to plan for nightly lane closures along I-80 in Parleys Canyon as crews begin the first phase of a multi-year improvement project.

Beginning Monday, May 11, drivers can expect lane closures between 2300 East and Exit 130 each night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
This work marks the start of several projects along I-80 that will repave 22 miles of the road, improve eight bridges, install 11 miles of fiber optic cable and upgrade nearly 50 miles of culverts.
“I-80 is a critical route for Utah’s economy,” UDOT Region Two Director Robert Stewart said. “It connects communities in Salt Lake and Park City and supports everything from daily commutes and deliveries to tourism. These projects will help keep the road in good condition for the thousands of drivers who rely on it every day.”
The next phase of work is expected to begin later this summer and will include paving from Mountain Dell Reservoir to Lambs Canyon. Bridge work and other construction activities are anticipated to begin in 2027.
Most traffic impacts are currently expected to occur overnight or on weekends. To assist drivers in their travel plans, the project team is offering opt-in text alerts. Drivers can learn more about the text alerts by visiting udotinput.utah.gov/summitparleysimproved.
Drivers should also plan for temporary delays and increased congestion near Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday, May 9 for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. Thousands are expected to attend, and 500 South between Guardsman Way and 1300 East will be closed from May 7-10. UDOT encourages visitors to plan ahead, watch for increased pedestrian traffic and consider taking public transit.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather, equipment availability and other factors. Drivers can check the UDOT Traffic app or visit udottraffic.utah.gov for the latest updates.
