Notice of public hearing and comment period – US-6 | Consumer Rd to Carbonville Rd
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING and comment period for a UDOT safety project on US-6
between Consumers Road and Carbonville Road in Carbon County;
UDOT Project No. F-0006(267)235, pin 22627.
The Utah Department of Transportation is proposing to use federal funds to make safety
improvements at the intersections of US-6 with Consumers Road, Carbonville Road, and
Spring Glen Road/Country Club Drive between milepost (MP) 235.3 and MP 236.5 in
Carbon County. The proposed improvements will result in the creation of a Restricted
Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) intersection by modifying the direct left-turn and through
movements from cross-street approaches onto US-6.
Construction of the RCUT will be accomplished by installing a 42-inch-high median barrier
between Consumers Road and Carbonville Road, with a gap in the barrier to allow left
turns from westbound US-6 to Country Club Drive and from eastbound US-6 to Spring Glen
Road. Left turn movements onto US-6 will be eliminated from Country Club Drive and
Spring Glen Road. U-turn movements and left turn movements onto US-6 will be regulated
by new traffic signals that will be installed at the intersection of US-6 and Consumers Road
and at the intersection of US-6 and Carbonville Road. Additional median barriers will be
installed on US-6 to a distance of 1000 feet north from Consumers Road.
Advanced Warning Systems (AWS) will be installed on US-6 on overhead mast arms at the
westbound approach to the signalized intersection with Carbonville Road and at the
eastbound approach to the signalized intersection with Consumers Road.
Additional project-related activities will include a microsurface pavement treatment
throughout the project limits, lighting and drainage improvements, and signage and
striping updates, as needed. No ROW acquisition will be required for the project.
UDOT is holding a public hearing to share information about the proposed safety
improvements, answer questions from the community, and provide an in-person
opportunity to submit comments to UDOT. A draft environmental document will be
available for review on the website and at the public hearing. The meeting will be an open house format with no formal presentation provided.
