Update: the closure will need to be extended until 6 p.m.
UDOT crews repairing pavement on US-189

The Utah Department of Transportation is urging drivers to plan ahead for a full closure of Provo Canyon this Sunday.
On Sunday, April 19 at 1 a.m., U.S. Route 189 will close in both directions from the Wallsburg turn-off (Main Canyon Road) to State Route 113 in Charleston. The road will reopen by 6 p.m.
During the closure, crews will repair pavement on the temporary bypass lanes. This work is part of the US-189 Improved Project, which is widening US-189 to two lanes in each direction, improving access to Deer Creek Reservoir and adding wildlife fencing for increased safety.
Drivers traveling between Utah County and Wasatch County should plan to use I-80 as an alternate route during the closure.
Additionally, on Sunday, April 19, crews will reduce multiple segments of I-15 between Rocky Ridge and Nephi to one lane in each direction for bridge work. Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during peak travel times.
These lane closure will continue through the summer as UDOT repairs eight bridges along I-15.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather, equipment availability and other factors. Drivers can check the UDOT Traffic app or visit udottraffic.utah.gov for the latest updates.
