Salt Lake International Airport off-ramp to close Monday for up to 30 days
May 8, 2026
UDOT crews continue bridge work on major I-215 West project
SALT LAKE CITY (May 8, 2026) — The Utah Department of Transportation is urging drivers heading to the Salt Lake International Airport to plan for several ramp closures at the I-80 and I-215 interchange.
Starting Monday, May 11 at 5 a.m., the ramps from southbound I-215 to westbound I-80 and southbound I-215 to eastbound I-80 will close through June 9.
Drivers heading to the Salt Lake International Airport from north of the airport should continue on southbound I-215 to SR-201, then use westbound SR-201 to Bangerter Highway and northbound Bangerter Highway to access the airport.
Drivers needing to reach eastbound I-80 from southbound I-215 should continue on southbound I-215 until they reach the SR-201 interchange, exit onto eastbound SR-201 (Exit 20A), then continue to eastbound I-80/Cheyenne exit.
Several other ramp closures are already in place near the I-80 and I-215 interchange including:
- Eastbound I-80 to southbound I-215: closed until May 18
- Westbound I-80 to southbound I-215: closed through mid-August
- Redwood Road to southbound I-215: closed until May 22
- Southbound I-215 on-ramp from California Avenue: closed until May 18
- Redwood Road to northbound I-215: closed until July 2027
These closures are part of the I-215 West Improved project, which is replacing 18 bridge decks, repairing potholes on 12 other bridges and repaving 25 miles of I-215.
Additionally, drivers heading to Salt Lake City International Airport should expect minor delays and lane closures on Terminal Drive, west of the Economy Lot and Long-Term Parking, from May 11-27 while the airport repaves the road.
Since beginning this spring, crews have completed work and reopened travel on the Redwood Road to westbound I-80 ramp and the southbound I-215 off-ramp to California Avenue is also scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, May 12.
Throughout the spring and summer, every ramp within the I-80 and I-215 interchange will close at different times for bridge work. Crews will stagger ramp closures so not all ramps will close at once, though some closures will overlap. Most ramp closures will last between 20 and 40 days, with many completed in about a month.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather, equipment availability and other factors. Drivers can use the UDOT Traffic app or visit udottraffic.utah.gov for the latest traffic information.
