Overnight lane closures begin at second location in Parleys Canyon

Two paving projects are reducing I-80 to one lane this summer

The Utah Department of Transportation has begun work on a second paving project in Parleys Canyon as part of a coordinated, multi-year effort to improve Interstate 80.

The project area covers a section of Interstate 80 starting near 2300 East and extending eastward past the Interstate 215 East interchange. Surrounding cities, streets, and routes shown for geographical context include Salt Lake City, Millcreek, 2300 East, Foothill Drive, State Route 171, and Interstate 215.

The newest work zone is between East Canyon Road and Lambs Canyon (Exits 134-137), where I-80 is now reduced to one lane nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers will also continue to see nightly lane closures farther down the canyon, where I-80 between 2300 East and Exit 130 is also reduced to one lane during the same hours.

Surrounding cities, areas, and routes shown for geographical context include Salt Lake City, Millcreek, 2300 East, and the Interstate 215 East interchange.

These closures will allow crews to repave sections of I-80, a critical route for Utah’s trucking industry and economy, mountain communities and recreation traffic. Over the next several years, crews will repave 22 miles, improve eight bridges, install 11 miles of fiber optic cables and upgrade nearly 50 miles of culverts.

Drivers should also plan for several other major traffic delays in Salt Lake and Davis counties this week:

The ramp from southbound I-215 to westbound SR-201 will close on Wednesday, May 27 at 6 a.m. for approximately two weeks while crews repair the bridge. Additional ramp closures due to the I-215 West Improve project in the area include:

A callout box points to the ramp, noting it is "Closed starting May 27 and expected to open June 10." Surrounding surface streets shown for geographical context include 1700 South, Redwood Road, and 2700 West. The map also includes a note that it was updated May 22, 2026, and that schedules are subject to change.
  • Southbound I-215 to eastbound I-80: Closed until early June
  • Westbound I-80 to southbound I-215: Closed through mid-August
  • Redwood Road to southbound I-215: Closed until May 28
  • Redwood Road to northbound I-215: Closed until July 2027

In Davis County, drivers should expect overnight lane closures on I-15 and Park Lane this week while crews continue bridge work for the Shepard Lane Improved project. Approximately three miles of I-15 between Burton Lane in Kaysville and State Street in Farmington will be reduced to one lane on the evenings of May 27-28 and Saturday, May 30, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m each time.

A detour route, marked by green arrows, directs traffic to use southbound Interstate 15, continuing south to exit at Parrish Lane, and heading west to reconnect with Legacy Parkway. Surrounding cities, surface streets, and routes shown for geographical context include Farmington, Centerville, Highway 89, State Route 177, State Street, Main Street, and Parrish Lane.

Crews will also close a ramp to Legacy Parkway in Farmington later this week. The ramp from Park Lane onto southbound Legacy Parkway will close on Friday, May 29 at 10:30 p.m. until Saturday, May 30 at 9:30 a.m. Drivers will be detoured to Parrish Lane in Centerville to get back onto southbound Legacy Parkway. Traffic on the Park Lane overpass will also be reduced to one lane in each direction during this time.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detours and use caution in the work zone.

Project schedules are subject to change due to weather, equipment availability and other factors. For the latest updates, download the UDOT Traffic app or visit udottraffic.utah.gov.
