2017 Standard Specifications
This section includes production, construction, and compaction of UTBC used for
pavements, shoulders, and incidental construction.
GENERAL
Untreated Base Course is a base course composed of natural gravel, crushed rock, or
crushed slag placed on a prepared subbase or subgrade. The aggregate is hauled,
placed, processed, graded and compacted. The inspector observes the placement;
processing and grading.
The inspector must review the project Measurement and Placement to determine the
placement type(s) and refer to 02721 MS&TR to determine the testing required and
determines the random sampling locations. Density testing for acceptance of Untreated
Base Course requires that the nuclear density gauge technician be UDOT TTQP SRDTT
qualified. Results of sampling and / or testing performed by a technician that is not
qualified cannot be used for acceptance.
The inspector must verify and document that the underlying surface that the surface
has been tested and accepted and is smooth and level, without ruts, free of standing
water or frost, and that any geotextile fabric or grid is properly placed and anchored.
