Description:
Bridges, retaining walls, culverts and other structures play a major role in UDOT’s
transportation system. They directly influence traffic operations, safety and funding
needs. The quality of structural construction can have a tremendous effect on the life
and safety of these structures. Construction Engineers and inspectors play a vital role in
ensuring that structural projects are built to plans and provide expected performance.
The intent of this chapter is not to repeat the specifications, but to offer an overview
and guidelines for inspectors to ensure work has been properly completed. All section
numbers refer to the 2017 Standard Specifications and Supplemental Specifications.
