General
Traffic Signal Systems are used to control competing traffic flows by assigning right of
way. The operation of the signal system is vital to the prevention of traffic accidents. All
components work together to provide a safe and efficient system of controlling vehicles
and pedestrians.
The inspector must review the plans and specifications to verify the locations and
elevations of traffic signal foundations and poles are correct.
Trenching must be correct for size, depth, number and type of conduits. Verify that PVC conduit is used underground and galvanized rigid steel conduit above ground and that
conduit or wire is installed and backfilled as per specifications.
The inspector, in coordination with the materials technician, ensures that materials
acceptance testing is performed according to MS&TR.
The inspector verifies that workmanship meets the plans and specifications.
