Size, Weight, & Motor Carrier Permitting
Overweight/Oversize Loads using dual lane trailers (over 10 feet wide) that do not pass bridge validation require clearance from the UDOT Structures Division. Review times are dependent upon the length of the route and the number of structures crossed. This clearance can take a minimum of 14 days, or longer, and should be applied for prior to purchasing the permit.
UDOT Structures Division approvals are for a single trip only. Carriers utilizing the same configurations/equipment are required to obtain a new approval prior to each move by the UDOT Structures Division to ensure that ongoing inspections and maintenance have not caused a change in bridge condition since the prior move. The approval process on repeat configurations/equipment and routes should take reduced time than the original clearance.
